Middleweights

Anderson Silva

Streak: 8 wins
Record: 22-4
Previous Ranking: N/A
Big Wins: Henderson, Franklin, Franklin, Marquardt, Lutter, Sakurai

Is there really any debate here? Silva beat both Henderson and Franklin and not only did he beat them, he dominated them. No one has even come close to giving Anderson a scare and it doesn't look like it will happen soon.

Dan Henderson

Streak: 2 losses
Record: 22-7
Previous Ranking: N/A
Big Wins: Silva, Belfort, Misaki, Nogueira

Despite a loss to Anderson Silva in which Henderson won a round and a tough loss to Jackson, Henderson has been nearly unbeatable. He had back to back wins against Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva, an achievement which is few and far between in MMA.

Rich Franklin

Streak: 1 wins
Record: 23-3
Previous Ranking: N/A
Big Wins: Lutter, Okami, Shamrock, Tanner

It's gotta be tough being second best. The oft-regarded #2 Franklin can seemingly beat anyone - except Anderson. He's taken down Yushin Okami and Travis Lutter in the last year, which is no easy task. Lutter was considered a contender at 185, but Franklin manhandled him and showed off some spectacular submission defense.

Paulo Filho

Streak: 16 wins
Record: 16-0
Previous Ranking: N/A
Big Wins: Sonnen, Misaki, Minowa

The Brazilian looked downright lost in his most recent bout with Chael Sonnen, but he pulled out the win and continues to be one of the most talented submission specialists in the game. He's also yet to taste defeat.

Robbie Lawler

Streak: 1 win
Record: 16-4
Previous Ranking: N/A
Big Wins: Rua, Villasenor

One of the youngest competitors in MMA, Lawler took the world by storm with his 4-1 start in the UFC. Two consecutive losses slowed him down (Diaz, Tanner), but Lawler has since reeled off four straight. A great show against Scott Smith only helped Lawler's cause.

Yushin Okami

Streak: 2 wins
Record: 26-4
Previous Ranking: N/A
Big Wins: Tanner, Swick

The Wolf dealt himself a title shot against Anderson Silva with a short beating of Evan Tanner at UFC 82. He did lose to Franklin, but it was a close decision, and before that fight, Okami had won four straight. He also holds a DQ win over Anderson Silva, but he was getting mauled up until that point.

Matt Lindland

Streak: 1 win
Record: 21-5
Previous Ranking: N/A
Big Wins: Newton, Horn, Lutter, Miletich

He lost to Fedor, but it's hard to dock him for a loss to one of the most talented fighters in the world who also happens to be much larger. Before that, he had won 8 straight on a streak that dated back to 2004.

Michael Bisping

Streak: 2 wins
Record: 16-1
Previous Ranking: N/A
Big Wins: Hamill

The Brit splashed onto the 185 pound scene with consecutive wins over Charles McCarthy and Jason Day. Bisping will need to up his competition if he wishes to rise, but from the looks of his recent fights in the division, that should not be a problem. Given the opportunity, Bisping could hang with anyone outside of the top 5.

Nathan Marquardt

Streak: 1 loss
Record: 26-8-2
Previous Ranking: N/A
Big Wins: Horn, Misaki, Carter

The Great One essentially handed a victory to Thales Leites with excessive penalties, but Nate is still one of the guys to beat. He always faces top competition and usually comes out on top, with submissions being his bread and butter.

Kazuo Misaki

Streak:2 wins
Record: 20-8-2
Previous Ranking: N/A
Big Wins: Henderson, Kang

Little known Misaki is easily one of the best middleweights out there. He's on a two-fight win streak and at one point in his career, beat Denis Kang and Dan Henderson back to back. He'll need to get out of World Victory Road if he wishes to move up in both competition and rankings, but the skills are there.

11. Patrick Cote Streak: 5 wins
12. Yoshihiro Akiyama Streak: 1 win
13. Thales Leites Streak: 4 wins
14. Demian Maia Streak: 8 wins
15. Rousimar Palhares Streak: 6 wins
16. Ronaldo Souza Streak: 9 wins
17. Melvin Manhoef
18. Chris Leben
19. Gegard Mousasi
20. Cung Le
21. Martin Kampmann
22. Jason Miller
23. Denis Kang
24. Joey Villasenor
25. Chael Sonnen
26. Frank Shamrock
27. Jason MacDonald
28. Murilo Rua
29. Vitor Belfort
30. Frank Trigg

 MMA Madness' Rules of Rankings

1.) For a fighter to be ranked, he must have:
* fought within the last two years

2.) For a fighter to be ranked in a new division, he must have:
* declared his intention to move divisions (ex: Dan Henderson)
* fought two consecutive fights at the new weight (ex: Hayato Sakurai)

3.) A fighter shall not be ranked at two weights
* He is ranked at the old weight until one of the two examples under #2 occurs

4.) Rankings will not rely on transitive properties
* ex: Alves beat Hughes, Hughes beat GSP, thus Alves beat GSP is not acceptable logic

5.) Rankings are based on a full body of work & strength of schedule, not just the last fight
* ex: Michael Bisping has just two wins at MW, but his resume includes a win on The Ultimate Fighter and a win over Matt Hamill (full body)
* ex: Matt Hughes has lost two of three (as of 6/08), however, that slump would not drop him as far as a younger fighter who lost two of three (full body)
* ex: Additionally, Hughes' losses have been to top competitors, so losses to GSP and Alves don't hurt as much as another fighters loss to Mike Swick (strength of schedule)
