The Maximum Fighting Championship (MFC) is Canada’s leading promotion for the world’s fastest-growing sport of mixed martial arts.
The last five shows have all been complete sellouts at both the Shaw Conference Centre and the Crowne Plaza Chateau Lacombe grand ballroom in Edmonton, proving that the City of Champions’ great fans have become dedicated to the MFC’s spectacular shows.
The shows have attracted leading members of Edmonton’s business community and the MFC’s demographics have seen a significant jump in the number of women (70-30 male/female split) and adults in the 18-34 category (the group with the highest amount of disposal income) in attendance.
The MFC has enjoyed tremendous successes in the ring as well. Patrick “The Predator” Cote, a veteran of the UFC and the reality show “The Ultimate Fighter” is our middleweight champion and Victor “The Matrix” Valimaki became our light heavyweight champion in September 2007.
In October 2007, Jason “The Athlete” MacDonald, who developed his skills in becoming the MFC’s international sensation, became the first Alberta-bred fighter to reach the UFC, the pinnacle of mixed martial arts. MacDonald instantly demanded the respect of the MMA world when he scored back-to-back victories over his UFC opponents and both times he earned the Submission of the Night bonus from UFC ownership.
Valimaki then joined MacDonald in the UFC in October and will make his return in April on the UFC’s long-awaited return to England. At MFC 11 – Gridiron, we also featured the MMA debut of Edmonton Eskimos star defensive lineman Adam Braidwood, whose passion for the sport was clear from his dedicated training and decisive knockout victory.
The MFC – and its management wing Pro Camp Sports – will soon have more fighters reaching championship heights and elite status, including Hawaiian heavyweight Scott Junk and young Edmonton-raised standout Ryan McGillivray as well as Brazilian phenomena Fabio Holanda.
The events and fighters have never received more exposure than now and the spotlight will only get brighter in the near future.
